A recent survery was done asking Americans what their five freedoms were. It turned out that only 1 in 1000 could answer this question yet 22% can name all five Simpsons characters. Can you? You might ask yourself why this is important. The truth of the matter is knowing your five freedoms is not as important as knowing how they are being taken away from you. For more information on this survey Click here.

I recently attended a speech on the Patriot Act. I learned that many of our rights are being taken away because of this. The Patriot Act allows goverment officials to tap in to my phone, computer, and personal life if they feel I am a threat. Yet ask yourself how many terrorist have been caught from these tactics. Neither you nor I can go on to the internet and learn about Islalmic religion with out the threat of being watched. This truly does happen. For more information about the ACLU click here.

I read about this study in the paper. As a social studies teacher and a Simpsons fan, I'm one of the few Americans who can name our five freedoms AND the five Simpsons. All joking aside, this is very disturbing information. Is it any wonder our rights are threatened when the average American can't even name them?
