Riverwalk

Frank, Mom, the dogs and I all went for a walk this afternoon along Pettit Drive(part of the bloomsday course). I used to walk along here several times a week during the summer. It is so beautiful. I really miss it.

V.O.I.C.E.S.

Jeff from V.O.I.C.E.S. visited my Intro to Social Work class this week along with others. He spoke about being the"Invisible man". He says that he is invisible because of he is an African American in a white society. In addition, he is highly educated and is a single father raising two kids. This was his second time visiting us and he is very interesting to listen to. This week he also told us about all the services he has had to use in the community to keep himself and his family alive. For any of you unfamiliar with this organization., V.O.I.C.E.S. is a community based program that focuses on educating people about poverty. They meet monthly and provide a dinner and daycare so people are motivated to attend. For more information on this organization click here.

EWU EAGLES

Well it is the end of the year for me. I have one more final and I am done for the summer. I am happy that I dont have to stress about tests anymore but I think I will miss school during the summer. You can find this eagle on the EWU campus over my Senior Hall. It is even more amazing in person.

Barry sang and read from the scriptures during the ceremony he sang and spoke in Salish. It was the best and most interesting part of the ceremony but I may be biased. Cinco De Mayo

Today is Cinco de Mayo for any that have forgotten. We had a celebration at the school I attend, E.W.U. There was music food and face painting for the kids. When I was in highschool I learned about Cinco de Mayo. I was told the French intended to take over Mexico they had many more soldiers and better weapons the Mexicans were expected to lose horribly. Yet, there was a big storm on the ocean and the French were not prepared for it and so the Mexicans defeated the French and celebrated yet only temporarily. The French in a couples days time re-grouped and came back to defeat Mexico. This may not be very accurate but that is what I recover from years ago. My teacher says that in Mexico Cinco de Mayo is not celebrated. People in the United States seem to make a bigger deal out of it.
